Urban strife review6/11/2023 ![]() ![]() However I want to point out that this is not simply another Greek Mythology based retelling. Can we say: Natural Born Enemies? LMAO I’m sure anyone familiar with this type of novel can already envision the delightfully entertaining shenanigans these two MC’s could be capable of when coming together. Strife’s Apple is an awesome Urban Fantasy/Romance about Eris, a “lesser” Goddess of Strife and Discord, and Apollo, an Olympian God of the Sun, Reason, Poetry, Prophecy, Music, Archery, Plague and Healing. This book was SO GOOD!!!! Everyone needs to jump on this now, what are you waiting for? ![]() If you love retellings of the myths in romance, if you want an intriguing and challenging setup, and if you want a mystery that has to be solved to avoid the death of the gods-well, do I have a book for you. Frankly, it offered me a thrill that I often don’t find within the comforting expectations of romance. It moved in unexpected and interesting ways. I honestly had no idea what was going to happen in this story. That’s because both Eris and Apollo evolve, realizing that one disadvantage of immortality is stasis. Rain takes this improbable coupling-–the god of sun and light with the goddess of strife and suffering-and makes it work. And Apollo is desperate, so desperate that he’s willing to work with Eris, who’s been caged in Tartarus for hundreds of years as punishment for the problems she caused. They’re losing their immortality and becoming human in some cases, their human personae overtakes their memories of being gods. Apollo is the Olympian we know from the stories (with his faults as well as good points), but his ability to see the future shows him that he has to do something with Eris to save the gods. Seeing this character evolve through a relationship with Apollo is just mind blowing. While Apollo is often portrayed, Eris is someone rarely considered because she’s a demigoddess rather than an Olympian.Īnd Eris is a truly a demigoddess here: the personification of discord, creating disharmony and rupture in the world simply because it’s her nature to do so. Strife’s Apple is different from what you usually find in myth retellings, which tend to focus on Hades and Persephone or Cupid and Psyche. It contains steamy scenes and is an opposites attract, enemies to lovers romance. Strife's Apple is a full-length, medium-burn, standalone fantasy romance with a guaranteed HEA. Too bad I have no interest in anything beyond revenge. The gods are fading, and only I can save them. Until Apollo came, and with the wave of one imperious hand, freed me. For seven hundred years, I never saw sunlight, never knew joy, never spoke to another mortal-or god. I’ll have the little goddess on her back, hands, knees, any and every way I can get her.įor seven hundred years, they kept me chained in darkness. I’ll do anything to save my family, including seducing her. The now-freed goddess may think she can beat me, but I intend to tame her wildness before she destroys us all. Which means retrieving the Goddess of Discord from the pits of Tartarus-where I left her, seven hundred years ago. As the God of Prophecy, it’s my duty to keep my fellow gods safe. ![]()
